지난주 본 토익스피킹 결과가 나왔습니다. 반드시 Level 7 이 필요했는데 딱!! 나와줬습니다. 사실 토스를 보기 전 오픽을 봤는데 IM1이 나오는 바람에 바로 토스로 갈아탔는데요. 시험을 한 번 더 볼 예정으로 가벼운 마음으로 시험을 보러 갔는데 운이 좋게도 원하는 성적을 얻었습니다. 혹시나 토익스피킹을 공부하는데 있어서 조금이나마 도움을 드리고자 시험에 대한 후기와 간단한 정보 및 TIP 에 대해서 알려드리도록 하겠습니다.

시험은 신촌CBT센터에서 봤었고 코로나 영향 때문에 마스크를 끼고 시험장에 입실하였습니다. 칸막이가 있는 형태의 시험장이었기 때문에 옆사람의 방해를 상대적으로 덜 받고 시험에 임할 수 있었습니다. 시험이 시작되는 순간 동시다발적으로 내뱉는 음성이 들리는데 그때 잠깐 당황했지만 침착하게 시험을 치를 수 있었습니다.

시험을 보는 동안에는 필기가 가능하며 시험보기 전 필기하는 것은 절대 금지입니다. 적발될 경우 퇴실당할 수도 있습니다. 핸드폰은 따로 제출하게 됩니다. 참고로 시험장에 CBT 가 들어가 있는 곳을 추천해드립니다. 이곳은 칸막이가 있기 때문에 다른 사람들의 목소리가 어느 정도 차단이 되고 토익 스피킹에만 집중하기 좋습니다.

간략하게 공부기간, 공부교재, 공부 방법은 다음과 같습니다.

공부기간 : 2주

공부교재 : 해커스 토익스피킹 레벨 7,8

공부방법 : 학원수강, 네이버 파파고, 유튜브 동영상

저는 학원에서 7,8 목표반 2주 수업을 들었습니다. 스터디는 따로 참여하지 않았습니다. 다른 사람들 앞에서 육성으로 영어를 내뱉다는 게 도저히….

수업은 해커스 교재 + 프린트물 위주로 수업이 진행되었는데 수업은 하루도 빠짐없이 매일 나갔지만 학원 자료로는 공부를 많이 하지 않았습니다. 수업시간에 열심히 듣고 따라 하고 각 파트별로 대답하는 패턴 혹은 유용한 문장 몇 가지 정도 암기하였습니다.

공부시간에 많이 투자를 한 건 직접 답변 대본을 만드는 일이었는데요. 모르는 주제가 나와도 즉석에서 유연하게 외운 문장을 뱉을 자신이 없었기 때문에 무조건 대본을 100% 암기하는 것이 저의 목표였습니다.

각 파트별 공부법은 다음과 같습니다.

Part 1, 2, 3, 4 – 상대적으로 쉬운 부분이라서 학원 수업 및 유튜브 동영상 강의를 참고하며 공부했습니다.

Part 5, 6 – 점수 배점이 가장 크기 때문에 시간 할애를 많이 했습니다. 해커스 토익스피킹 7,8 교재 파트5, 6 부분을 모두 쌩 암기하였습니다.

사실 해커스 토익스피킹 7, 8 교재가 좀 어렵습니다. 저는 무식하게 모두 외워서 레벨 7을 받았는데 이렇게 까지 외우지 않아도 토스 7 받으시는 분들 많습니다. 그냥 참고만 하시면 될 것 같습니다.

이렇게 외워도 처음 보는 주제들이 나올 때가 있어서 네이버 토스 카페를 통해 2019년 1년치 Part 6 기출문제를 따로 정리해서 대본을 만들고 외웠습니다. 대략 60여개의 주제가 나왔는데요. 무조건 토스7을 따야 했기 때문에 그냥 무식하게 외웠습니다. 혹시라도 모르는 주제가 나올까봐 나름 만반의 준비를 했던 것 같습니다.

아래 사진은 제가 실제로 만들었던 자료와 틈틈이 암기하려고 남겨놓은 흔적입니다.

공부는 하루 평균 2~5시간 정도 한 것 같습니다. 완성된 대본을 가지고 암기하는데 시간을 많이 투자했는데요. 샤워하면서 내뱉거나 돌아다니면서 혼자 중얼중얼 내뱉었습니다. 1분 정도 시간을 정하고 말해보거나 직접 녹음을 해서 들어보기도 하였습니다.

그리고 2주 후에 시험을 보았고 다행히도 Level 7 이 나왔습니다. 사실 한 번 더 볼 생각이었지만 치킨 4마리를 세이브할 수 있었습니다. 참고로 오픽은 IM1을 가지고 있었는데요. (첫 시험 NH는 비밀입니다.)

사실 저는 오픽 시험을 보고 원하는 IH 가 나오지 않아서 토스로 갈아탄 경우입니다. 이와 관련된 글은 다음을 참고하시면 좋을 것 같습니다.

토스 vs 오픽, 비교해보고 선택하자! (feat. 시험 둘 다 본 사람)

토스7 후기를 찾아보면 다들 한글로 이렇게 ~ 저렇게 ~ 대답했다 이런 식으로 작성된 글이 많았습니다. 그래서 토스7 답변이 어느정도인지 가늠할수 없었는데요. 제가 시험장에서 했던 실제 답변을 직접 남겨드리겠습니다.

Part1 : 지문 읽기

: 무난하게 읽었고 Ms.Anderson 이 부분에서 미쓰가 아니라 미쎄스라고 발음을 하였습니다.

Part2 : 사진설명

야외에서 찍힌 사진, 여자2명 등장, 한 명은 벤치에 앉아 신문 보고 다른 한 명은 계단 내려오는 사진

I think this picture was taken outdoors. What i notice first is 2 people outdoors.

Firstly, i can see a woman who is wearing glassess.

She is sitting on the chair and She is reading a news paper.

The other one is a woman who has long black hair. she is carrying his back with his right shoulders.

She is walking down on stairs.

overall, it seems like a typical outoors. it looks pretty peaceful.

: 연습도 많이 안했고 긴장을 한 탓인지 배경 묘사를 하지 않고 넘어갔었습니다. 중간중간 좀 더듬기도…….bench를 chair라고 하고 her인데 자꾸 his라고 하기도…. 마무리 멘트하고 나서야 배경 설명 안 한 걸 깜빡했습니다.

Part3 : 질문에 답하기

집 임대와 관련된 인터뷰였습니다.

Yes, I can see. Because our society have been modernized and developed at least for more than 10 years.

Q6. 이사갈때 가구 렌트하기 vs 원래 쓰던 가구 가져가기 둘 중 무엇 선호?

Firstly, Actually, I’m looking for a job now.

As a job seeker, i don’t have enough money. so i have to save my money.

so I don’t have to rent funiture.

: 사실 질문이 정확히 기억이 나질 않고 제가 했던 답변만 기억이 납니다. 시험이 끝난 뒤 다른 사람들의 후기를 본 결과 제가 Q4, Q5 질문을 잘못 이해하고 동문서답했었습니다. 문법 틀린 부분도 살짝 있었네요.

Part4 : 인터뷰 스케줄표 설명하기

: 주어진 질문에만 답변을 하였고 추가적인 대답은 하지 않았습니다

It will be start at 3 p.m.라고 문법 실수하였습니다.

Part5 : 문제 상황설명 + 해결책 제시

: 듣기가 완벽하지 못해서 대충 battery, customer, own, attract 이 정도 단어 정도로 유추를 해서 대충 홍보하는 방법을 찾는 것 같았습니다. 그 후로 암기했던 멘트 다다다 다다다 내뱉었습니다.

Part 6 : 의견 제시하기

예술가들이 성공하기 위해서는 Hard work vs luck 둘 중 무엇이 중요하다고 생각하는지?

I think Hard work is more important in becoming a successful artist. (질문 그대로 인용)

There are some reasons why i think so.

Firstly, There is saying that there is no luck for trying…..to trying. for try….. oh.. sorry. (준비한 멘트 잊어먹음)

um.. Genius is 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration. It means that hard work is more important than luck.

Even with good luck, If the artist is not trying hard work, then He may not succeed in the future.

Secondly, It is very hard to succeed without hard work.

This is because you know… um….. a lot of famous successful artists were people who were trying hard work than luck.

So therefore….. 잘림…

: 운이 정말 좋았는데 준비한 질문이 나왔습니다.

노력 vs 운 , 재능 vs 노력 이런 유형이 나올 땐 첫 번째 근거엔 유명한 격언을 인용하는 대본을 만들어 놓았었습니다.

그래서 보자마자 준비한 멘트 다다다 다다다 내뱉었습니다.

전체적으로 문법적인 실수도 있었고 답변 수준도 높지 않았습니다. Part3에서는 동문서답하기도 하였습니다. 하지만 전반적으로 발음도 굴리며 um… you know..라고 필러도 써가며 대답을 이어가려 노력했고 3초 이상 크게 머뭇거렸던 적은 없었던 것 같습니다.

레벨 7 받는 분들은 막 화려하고 유창하고 그랬을 것 같은데 막상 제가 받아보니 생각보다(?) 그 정도는 아닌 것 같습니다. 물론 운이 좋게 준비한 부분에서 나왔고 160 턱걸이지만요.

그래서 토스 레벨7을 목표로 준비하시는 분들도 제 글 보시고 이 정도 해도 충분히 레벨7 받을 수 있다는 자신감을 가지셨으면 좋겠습니다.

TIP : 자신감을 가지고 말하자! Part 5, Part 6가 가장 중요하다!

4월초에 토익스피킹 벼락치기를 했었다. 시험비 7만 7천원…왜때문에 토익스피킹 비싼거죠?

백수 입장에서 너무 비싼 시험비.. 사실 토익보다 훨씬 물시험이라서 이걸로 영어 능력치가 인정되는건 아니라고 생각한다. 어느정도 템플릿만 외워도 실력에 상관없이 레베루 7은 받을 수 있다고 생각해. 그렇지만 나님 나름 영어쓰면서 일한지 4년 정도 됨. 그렇기때문에 토익스피킹은 큰 부담은 없었고, 갖고 있는 토익스피킹 책을 한번 돌리면 무난히 만점을 받을 줄 알고 있었다.

3월 후반 들어 조금 루즈해지고 살짝 방황을 하던 시기에, 마음을 다잡기 위해 딱 이틀 정도 바짝 공부하고 다른 날은 보느니 마느니 했더니…

레벨 6가 나온다..^_^ 대 충 격. 작년에 회사다닐때 조퇴하고 저녁에 봤던 거보다 10점 더 오름..그때도 뒤지게 공부하기 싫어서 겨우겨우 시험만 봤는데 필기 할수 있는거 보고 쉽게 봤었거든.

시험 보러 가서 긴장해서 제대로 말을 못하고 녹음 중간에 시간 오버되서 뚝 끊기고 그랬던게 컸던듯? 그리고 몰려오는 자괴감. ㅋㅋㅋ

그리고 5월부터 토익스피킹 시험비가 오른다는 이 무슨 멍멍이같은 소문을 듣게 돼. 그래서 더더욱 집중해서 만점 받고 끝내버려야겠다는 생각을 해.

과장 좀 해서 밥먹고 집안일 하는거빼고 토익스피킹 공부만 한번 해보았음. 책은 작년 여름에 사놨던 <5일 만에 끝내는 해커스 토익스피킹 실전모의고사 12회>. 책살때 최대한 얇은걸로 고르고 골랐어 ㅋㅋㅋ 가격은 1만5천원 정도? 실제로 책에는 10회분이 실려있고 2회분은 온라인 모의고사다. 응 나 걍 10회분만 2번 봤다.

아!! 그리고 젤 중요한거!! 모의고사 풀면서 연습할때는

1. 주로 문제 3, 9, 10번 중심으로 템플릿 짜면 됨. 나머지는 긴장만 안하면 쉽게 풀수 있다.

2. 내가 잘 안되는 문제 녹음하고 들어보고 고치고 녹음하기 (들어보면 되게 부끄러운데 문장 고쳐가면서 녹음하면 이게 그렇게 도움이 된다)

3. 소음상황에서 답변하기! 유튜브에 카페 ASMR 같은거 크게 틀어놓고 실제 시험장에서 다른 사람 답변 할때 쫄지 않도록 연습!!

▲5일간의 벼락치기 계획. 2번 돌리기. 토스 시험 만점으로 졸업하야 돈을 애끼겠다는 백수의 필사의 노력.

이건 책 버리려고 방정리하다가 노트에 템플릿 만들고 열공한게 있어서 올려본다.

그리고 화창한 4월의 일요일. 고대에 시험 예약을 해놨기 때문에, 사뿐하게 걸어서 방문해주었어. 토익스피킹 레베루 8 만점을 위해 미리 승리의 미소를 지어 보았다. 씨 ^_^ 익

시험팁은, 방송나오자 마자 필기하고, 긴장하지 않기.

그리고 시험볼때 필기를 할수 있기때문에

시험이 시작된다는 음성이 나오자마자 답안지 돌려서 템플릿 외워놓은거를 답지 뒷면에 막 적어놨어. 말할때 막히지 말고 바로바로 보고 말할려구. 라떼는 필기도 안됐었는데 참 세상 좋아졌어. ^_^

그리고 긴장하지 않고, 최대한 떠들고 나온다~ 생각하고 막 떠들어줬어.

결과는?

레벨7 180점. 아쉽다. 10점 만 더 받았어도 레벨8인데….그래도 잘했다! 5일 벼락치기 한 보람이 있었어. 일주일만에 30점을 올렸으니?!!! 200점 받고 싶었는데, 템플릿만 외워서는 200점이 안나온다네. 뭔가 나만의 다양한 표현을 좀 더 곁들여야 하는듯? 토익부터 950만들어 두고 회사 가기 전에 시간 있을때 토스 200점 한번 만들어 보겠음.
